There should be some cotter pins holding the two rails/slides on either side that keeps it from rolling out. Two people are best to do this, one on each side, otherwise it'll go cross-ways on ya. Take the hook part of the rod & loop it on the strap & slowly roll it 'out' til you can grab the strap w/your hands. Roll it out to desired level & slide the cotter pins back in place to hold it from rolling out further. Word of caution, if it rains on ya, BE SURE to let the awning dry if possible before rolling it up so it stands less chance of mildewing. If it's still got water on it when ready to roll up, pull the awning all the way down to drain the water off & we used a broom (the bristle end) to 'sweep' on the underside (the part you sit under) the water off from the topside. If it's still moist it should be okay til you get to where you can roll it back out to finish drying.

Top Ten Rv Tips

You've decided to enjoy the open road and visit national parks and wilderness throughout the country. An RV is the perfect addition to a comfortable drive and overnight stay at parks and camps. There are some points to consider before settling into any RV camp. Before you set off in your RV, consider the top tips for RV camping etiquette.

Make sure you read the rules for each individual camp ground. Most RV camps maintain a certain template of rules, however some will have unique instructions for RV campers. The rules are there to make you and your neighbor's stay the most enjoyable. Typical rules include slowing speeds for safety, and lowering noise and turning off lights after a specific time.

If you're traveling with a pet (for instance a dog), make sure to pick up after him. No one likes a messy RV campground. Also ensure your dog's barking and behaviors are conducive to a friendly environment for you and your RV neighbors.

When parking your RV, most RV camps will give explicit instructions that dedicate your space. Some RV camps, however, will only have water and sewer hookups that give only a general idea of direction. It is important to keep your RV and its extremities on your side of the space. Hanging awnings and other resources out into your neighbor's space is considered bad etiquette.

If you arrive during late hours, keep noise to a minimum. It's understandable that you need to hookup your RV for the night, however loud banging and other intrusive disturbances for your neighbors will surely anger them. This same courtesy should be followed when leaving RV camping grounds during early morning hours as well.

Make sure sewer connections are tight. Don't let any of your private mess intrude on your neighbor's space. Keep your RV connections away from other vehicles and RVs.

Consider an RV parking area as private property. Although it's not the private property of the RV camper, proper etiquette states that no trespassing while a space is occupied is common courtesy. When walking to certain locations keep to roads and trails and do not cut through other RV spaces.

Campfires are popular enjoyments within RV camps, but read the campground rules before lighting a fire.  During extremely dry weather, some camp grounds do not permit fires. If you do light a campfire, be considerate of the people around you and ensure the surrounding area is clear from dry leaves and other materials that can quickly spread a fire.

When you leave your designated RV camping space, help keep the park clean by properly removing trash and waste. Your RV should have a trash can to throw dirty plates, plastic wrap, and other garbage. Do not throw any waste on the ground. This only causes an untidy and dirty experience for future RV campers.

Although these rules are basic, common sense dictates a simple "do unto others" attitude. Keep your space clean and consider other RV campers around you. Following these simple rules will help you enjoy the RV experience and perhaps you'll meet some friends along the way.

Shopping Online for Retractable Awnings

It’s hard to believe, but online shopping has only been around since the mid-1990s. Originally limited to books and music, online stores have expanded to encompass everything from classic car parts to haute couture sunglasses – including retractable awnings and sun protection systems.

However, web stores aren’t one great big monolith with the same options and the same prices. There is even bigger variety online than in stores, both in products and in companies, and that’s as true for retractable awnings as it is for books and DVDs.

What’s the Difference between a Manufacturer, Assembler, and Store

For sun protection systems, there are three different “levels” of stores:

· Manufacturer, the company who actually produces the goods from raw materials.

· Assembler or fabricator, a company which combines different components from one or several different manufacturers and combines them into the final product.

· Retail store, which is very much comparable to a physical store; they simply buy a completed product from an assembler (fabricator) or other “middle man.”

For retractable awnings, each component (the frame, the fabric, the motor) almost always has a different, specialized manufacturer. This means buying a complete retractable awning from a manufacturer is unlikely. In addition, manufacturers only sell to other trade companies, not directly to the public.

Assemblers are a kind of intermediary manufacturer. As the name implies, an assembler or fabricator doesn’t manufacture the core parts; they select the retractable awning elements and then assemble the final retractable awning at a warehouse or manufacturing center. Assemblers have significant direct influence over the design, quality, and accessories with the final retractable awnings because they interact with manufacturers and can select from a variety of different dealers to mix and match the best components.

Online retailers are frequently simply extensions of brick and mortar stores, usually with the same prices and selection. In some instances, they may have better selection and pricing, but it’s inconsistent.

Compare the Shopping Experience for Online or at Stores

The most obvious advantage of assemblers over retailers is the initial cost. Assemblers don’t have intermediate markups from middlemen the way that retailers do. Additionally, the average minimum retail markup is anywhere from 40% to 60%, partly for profit and partly to cover the overhead of large stores, staff, and other expenses.

The price is impacted in other ways, as well. Online assemblers charge shipping costs, but this is more than offset by the fact they don’t charge sales tax (except for orders within the state where the company is located). Sales taxes alone can be up to 10% of the cost of a retractable awning. All told, online retractable awning assemblers cost about 35% less than a store.

Part of the price markup is the visual and tactile experience of shopping in person. Especially with large items, it can be hard to cross the threshold to buy something sight-unseen, and seeing a floor model takes some of the worry off. However, some online assemblers offer 3D rendering or artist’s drafts of retractable awnings based on real pictures of your home with the retractable awning style, scaled to your specifications, to give a relevant and exact image of what your new retractable awning will look like. That’s a service that almost no retailer can provide and goes far beyond a display model in helping make your selection. In addition, a good online retailer will send frame samples (for quality and color) and fabric samples.

Assemblers, because of the direct contact they have with the product, are also experts about retractable awnings and other sun, wind, and rain protection systems. If there are ever any questions about the retractable awning or if there’s a need for a replacement part, the assembler’s support system is able to assist immediately. Retail stores, on the other hand, change suppliers frequently, so finding someone familiar with your retractable awning or being able to track down a replacement part or new accessory is nearly impossible.

And then there are the advantages of shopping online in general: the ability to browse; easy comparison shopping; coming back as often as you need, without pressure from salespeople. It’s all part of the experience.

What to Look for Online

A good online retractable awning assembler is an expert on retractable awningss, and they will make as much information available about their product as possible. When deciding what retractable awnings to purchase, first look for quality:

· Kevlar® straps in the arms instead of steel cables, which will rust.

· Minimum of a 25-year warranty on retractable awning frames, which is the expected lifetime of electrostatically powder-coated aluminum frames.

· Certifications, especially from Eurolab and TÜV; the highest quality manufacturers are in Europe, and the European testing labs have the most stringent standards.

· Solution-dyed acrylic fabrics, which have a lifetime of 10-15 years, up to 500% longer than other retractable awning fabrics and vinyl.

· Tenara® UV resistant sewing thread, which has a lifetime warranty against seam separation.

And if you have any questions, call the assembler and ask in person. Good retractable awning assemblers, even if they’re online stores, will have some kind of live support available.

Taking advantage of online assemblers won’t only save you 35% on your retractable awning. Shopping online will get you a better quality and a more beautiful retractable awning, which happens to also be 35% less costly than retail stores.

Awning - types and their importance

Pretty, Practical Retractable Awnings

The different kinds of retractable awnings. They can be closed in or open. Uses of them for motor homes.

There are two types of retractable awnings: those which are operated by hand (manual) and those which have a motor (automatic). Both of these types of awnings are assembled by hand and are considered permanent installations. The manual kind of awning is opened (extended)and closed (retracted) through the use of a hand wheel, which moves the gears. The automatic type is opened and closed by a motor that pushes the gears.

Many motor homes have retractable awnings to add living space to them. They are attached to one side, usually the right side that has the entrance door. They can be either closed or open. The closed types have plastic or fabric along the front and/or sides, giving both privacy and protection when it is in use. Many times, electrical lines will be installed to allow the area to be used at night.

A motor home can be a camper, a trailer, or a recreational vehicle. There are three kinds of motor homes, at least in the United States. A Class A Motor Home is specifically constructed on a strong chassis that is either a truck chassis, a bus chassis, or one designed for the motor home. A Class B Motor Home is really a standard design van, but modified to contain a raised roof, or a lower, aerodynamic body. The last type is the Class C Motor Home, which is a body placed upon a truck chassis.

Though some motor home owners do travel a lot, many of them prefer to stay at a motor home park for extended lengths of time. In this way, the motor home actually serves as a vacation cabin. The parks provide all the amenities, such as electricity, water and sewer hookup, cable T.V and, nowadays, even Internet availability. Some motor home parks are like small resorts where guests can use the pool, recreation room, tennis courts, etc. Some offer additional activities such as horseback riding or boating. A motor home with a retractable enclosed awning, in a location with all these facilities, is really like another home! Needless to say, these types of locations are expensive, and so many people opt for the less expensive campgrounds which may not have many facilities.

A motor home awning for the most part must be made to fit the length of the motor home it is being made for, unless the motor home already had one factory installed on it. These types of retractable awnings come in both manual or automatic styles.
